Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett signs record-breaking, 4-year contract extension

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has signed a record-breaking, four-year contract extension that averages $40 million per year, including $123.5 million in guaranteed money– making Garrett the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero: “Myles Garrett is now the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Staying in Cleveland: The #Browns and Myles Garrett have agreed to terms on a new deal that includes $123 million guaranteed and averages $40 million per year, sources tell me and @RapSheet”

This contract extension comes shortly after Garrett requested a trade from the team; however, the Browns were adamant that their star defensive player remain on the roster. The Browns originally selected Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft; last season, the defensive end played in all 17 games last season, totaling 14 sacks, 47 tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery; his 102.5 sacks trails only the Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt (who has 108).

Buffalo Bills release eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller

The Buffalo Bills officially announced they are releasing outside linebacker Von Miller, saving Buffalo $8.4 million in cap space. Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that both the Bills and Miller are open to him rejoining the team.

NFL Network reported: “The #Bills are releasing pass-rusher Von Miller, per me and @TomPelissero Miller is set to turn 36 years old before the 2025 season, and Buffalo makes the move now. Both sides, however, are open to a return.”

Miller, 36, played three seasons with the Bills, signing with them as a free agent after the Denver Broncos traded him to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021-22 season.  He played 13 games for Buffalo last season, with six sacks with 17 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and 32 total pressures.

Across 13 NFL seasons, Miller has 129.5 sacks (making him the NFL’s active leader in that category), 27 forced fumbles and 581 combined tackles in 186 games. His best performance was during his second season in 2012 when he registered 18.5 sacks with 28 tackles for loss. He earned first-team All-Pro honors three times and second-team four times, while also being named to eight Pro Bowls.

Last season, Miller served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy amid accusations of domestic violence; he was never charged, but the NFL still investigated the alleged incidents.

Cleveland Browns restructure Deshaun Watson contract to clear $36M in salary cap space

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that the Cleveland Browns have restructured Deshaun Watson’s contract to clear $36M in salary cap space by converting $44.7 million of his 2025 salary into a signing bonus. Watson, who signed a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract with the Browns in 2022, would now receive a minimum salary this season and $46 million in 2026. He previously restructured his contract in December.

Pelissero wrote on X: #Browns did a simple restructure on Deshaun Watson’s contract, clearing $35.8 million .. The #Browns have now paid out the vast majority of Deshaun Watson’s five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract. All that’s left is a minimum salary this season and a $46 million salary in 2026.”

Restructuring the contract for Watson makes the Browns cap-compliant before the start of the new league year on March 12. They entered the offseason $29.9 million over the $279.2 million cap, and now have $12.9 million in cap room.

Over the past three seasons, Watson has been plague with injuries, throwing for 3,365 yards with 19 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 61.2 completion percentage in 19 games. He may not be able to play in 2025 after re-rupturing his Achilles in January, two months after suffering the same injury in a Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Browns are coming off their worst season (3-14) since the 2017 campaign, tying with the Titans for worst in the AFC in 2024-25.
