Catherine, Princess of Wales, announces she is in remission from cancer

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced on Tuesday that her cancer is in remission – less than one year after first announcing her diagnosis.

Catherine, the wife to the heir to the throne, Prince William, shared the news of her remission in a social media post while posting pictures of her visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London (one of the U.K.’s leading oncology facilities, where Kate received treatment).  The caption read: “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year  My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional. In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer. It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. C”

The 43-year-old princess revealed she had cancer in a video announcement in March 2024. At the time she said she was undergoing “a course of preventative chemotherapy” on the advice of her medical team, but has not shared publicly further details of her diagnosis. The Princess of Wales has made several public appearances since she revealed her diagnosis, attending the men’s final at Wimbledon with her daughter Charlotte, 9, in July; and back in September, she revealed that she had completed chemotherapy and was focused on staying “cancer free” and returning to work.

Alleged stalker of WNBA star Caitlin Clark disrupts hearing, held on $50K bond

A Texas man who was arrested for allegedly sending threats and sexually explicit messages to WNBA star Caitlin Clark is being held on $50,000 bond, following a disruptive court appearance in Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Michael Thomas Lewis, 55, who is accused of stalking Clark, let out multiple outbursts during his first appearance in court since he was arrested over the weekend and accused to making a series of vulgar, threatening online statements at the Indiana Fever player, including yelling he is “guilty as charged” as he stood before Judge Angela Davis at Marion County Superior Court. Per NBC News, Lewis shouted “I’m free” and “I guess you got the wrong guy” at different points throughout the hearing; when asked by the court if he suffers from mental illness, Lewis responded, “I need my medicines.”

Indiana state prosecutors allege that Lewis stalked Clark from approximately Dec. 16, 2024 and Jan. 11, 2025 with “repeated and continued harassment,” and also allege that Lewis made an implicit or explicit threat “with the intent to place Caitlin Clark in reasonable fear of sexual battery.”  An X account linked to Lewis shows thousands of messages he sent to Clark, which were sexually explicit and/or violent in content.

Lewis was arrested Sunday and is being held in the Marion County Adult Detention Center in Indianapolis. He faces a level five felony charge of stalking, which carries a sentence of 1 to 6 years in the department of corrections, with the presumptive sentence of three years, as well as a $10,000 fine.

Judge Davis said the purpose of the hearing was to relay the charges and she would not yet accept a plea, with Lewis set to return to Marion County Superior Court on March 31 for a pretrial hearing. The judge also ordered Lewis to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Fever play home games, and from Butler basketball arena Hinkle Fieldhouse (Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery is an assistant coach at Butler).

Miami’s Jimmy Butler speaks to Heat president Pat Riley, reiterates demand for trade

Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler has had additional conversations with team president Pat Riley that he is not interested in seeking an extension, and has demanded a trade.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, in a face-to-face meeting with Riley last week Butler reiterated that he wants to be traded and will not sign a new contract with the Heat. Butler reportedly told Riley that he won’t sign an extension and added that he “intends to only use his $52 million player option in the offseason for 2025-26 as a trade maneuver.”

It was reported last month that the 35-year-old Butler would prefer to be moved by the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, after Butler and the Heat were unable to come to terms on a contract extension this past summer. After Riley issued a statement in December stating “We are not trading Jimmy Butler,” Butler responded a week later, saying, “I want to see me get my joy back from playing basketball and wherever that may be, we’ll find out pretty soon. I want to get my joy back. I’m happy here off the court, but I want to be back to somewhat dominant, I want to hoop and I want to help this team win. Right now, I’m not doing that.”

The Heat suspended Butler for seven games on Jan. 3 for “conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks” but added in a statement: “Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team.  Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded, therefore, we will listen to offers.” The seven-game suspension cost Butler $2.35 million in salary; however, the NBA Players Association field a grievance and released a statement calling the discipline “excessive and inappropriate.”

Butler, who is eligible to return to the Heat on Thursday, is in the final year of a $49 million contract this season. He is averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 22 games.

Eagles LB Nakobe Dean out for rest of playoffs after tearing patellar tendon

League sources confirmed that the Philadelphia Eagles starting linebacker Nakobe Dean is expected to miss the remainder of the playoffs after suffering a serious knee injury early in the second quarter during Sunday’s wild-card playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Dean is out for the remainder of the playoffs due to a torn patellar tendon in his knee and will “likely” miss the start of the 2025 season. The linebacker was injured in the second quarter after wrangling tight end Tucker Kraft to the ground for a 3-yard loss on a screen play. After being assisted off the field to the medical tent, Dean was carted inside. Prior to exiting the contest, he recorded six tackles, which included two tackles for loss.

Eagels’ cornerback Darius Slay said of Dean: “He’s one of the true leaders on this defense. I know I got the ‘C’ on my chest but if there is someone I want to give my [captaincy] to, it’s him. It’s hurtful to see him go down like that because he is having an amazing year, playing outstanding, and I’m praying for him for a speedy recovery.”

The 24-year-old Dean was drafted in the third round in 2022 out of Georgia. Last season he was sidelined for all but five games due to multiple foot injuries, including a Lisfranc sprain that landed him on injured reserve in November. However this year, Dean was having a breakout season with 128 tackles (the second-most on the team behind Zack Baun), three sacks, nine tackles for loss, six quarterback hits and an interception.
