Seahawks trading LB Jerome Baker, fourth-round pick in exchange for Titans’ Ernest Jones IV

Sources told ESPN’s Brady Henderson on Wednesday that the Seattle Seahawks are trading linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for linebacker Ernest Jones IV. Baker, 27, has 37 tackles and a sack in his first season with Seattle, which leads the NFC West with a 4-3 record. Jones, 24, has 44 tackles this season who at 1-5 are in last place in the AFC South.

The deal marks the second time Jones has been traded this year — the Titans acquired Jones from the Rams in August in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick to Los Angeles and a 2026 sixth-round selection. ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes that this is the second trade by the Titans, who also are finalizing a trade of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones has 364 tackles in four seasons, and took on a leadership role with the Titans, playing 91.2% of Tennessee’s defensive snaps. Baker, who spent his first six seasons with the Miami Dolphins, has 624 tackles and 23.5 sacks in his career and will replace Jones in the starting lineup.  Additionally, both Jones and Baker are scheduled to become free agents after this season.

Kansas City Chiefs finalizing trade for Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade for Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs are expected to send a fifth-round draft pick that can become a fourth-rounder if Kansas City reaches the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays 60% of snaps as a Chief. Tennessee will also pay Hopkins $2.5 million.

The acquisition of Hopkins, 32, should help to strengthen the team after losing Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to injuries. Hopkins is in the final year of the two-year, $26 million contract he signed last off-season with the Titans, totaled 15 catches for 173 yards and a score through his first six games of 2024. He logged 75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns over 17 games last season.

The five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro totaled at least 1,000 receiving yards six times through his first eight seasons while splitting time with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

The Chiefs, who have the No. 10 offense and No. 10 defense in the NFL, will play the Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Imprisoned former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia

Former film producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer while in jail. Weinstein, 72, was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (per NBC News) while serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault at New York City’s Rikers Island prison.

According to the American Cancer Society, chronic myeloid leukemia is a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow and invades the blood. The organization says approximately 15% of leukemias in adults are CML.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Weinstein is undergoing treatment while imprisoned at Rikers Island. Weinstein’s authorized legal healthcare representative in New York, Craig Rothfeld, refused to confirm reports of Weinstein’s condition and instead expressed “profound dismay at the speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein’s medical condition. It is both troubling and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become a subject of public discourse. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

Weinstein has experienced multiple health issues amid his ongoing sexual assault trials — in July, Weinstein’s representatives said he was hospitalized for a “myriad of health conditions,” including COVID-19 and double pneumonia, and this past September, he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital for emergency heart surgery after experiencing chest pains, his representatives told ABC News. Weinstein also suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid on his heart and lungs, and various other conditions.

Weinstein has denied all claims of sexual misconduct, saying his encounters were always consensual. The former movie mogul is being prosecuted again for sex crimes after a New York court of appeals overturned Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction and ordered a retrial. He had been found guilty of criminal sexual assault and third-degree rape and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Cleveland Browns sign quarterback Bailey Zappe off Chiefs’ practice squad

The Cleveland Browns will sign Bailey Zappe of the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, adding depth after losing quarterback Deshaun Watson to a season-ending ruptured Achilles injury.

The deal for Zappe, 25, comes less than 24 hours after the Browns announced that Watson will miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign.  Watson was hurt in the second quarter of the Browns’ 21-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in Cleveland.

Zappe, the fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, signed with the Chiefs over the off-season after spending his first two seasons with the New England Patriots. He completed 63.2% of his throws for 2,053 yards, 11 scores and 12 interceptions through his first 14 NFL appearances, including eight starts. Last season, he appeared in a career-high 10 games last season, completing 59.9% of his throws for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Zappe joins a Browns quarterbacks room that includes Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jameis Winston. He could potentially serve as back up for Winston against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday as Thompson-Robinson, the Browns’ second-string quarterback on Sunday, sustained a finger injury in their Week 7 loss. Coach Kevin Stefanski said that the Browns were still determining Thompson-Robinson’s status this week.

The Browns (1-6) will host the Baltimore Ravens (5-2) in an AFC North divisional meeting at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Cleveland.

Detroit Lions Jameson Williams issued 2 game suspension for violating NFL’s PES policy

ESPN’s Eric Woodyard reports that Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams faces a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Substances (PES) policy. Williams confirmed the suspension to ESPN, saying he is “in good spirits” and ready to return “as soon as possible.” He was also suspended part of last season for violating the NFL’s gambling policy.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said on Tuesday morning during a radio appearance that he is preparing to not have Williams for the next couple of games: “I can’t really say anything about it until the league gives judgment, and it comes out on their end. I’m not supposed to really comment on it. All I can tell you is we’re prepared to not have him ..And we’ll be fine, that’s why we’ve got (Kalif Raymond) and [Amon-Ra St. Brown] and (Sam) LaPorta and T.P. (Tim Patrick) and Allen Robinson, among other things with David Montgomery and (Jahmyr) Gibbs. We’ll be fine. We’ll move on. This thing comes down, if it does, when it comes down, we’ll be fine.”

Williams was off to the best start of his career this season, totaling 17 catches for 361 yards and three touchdowns through his first six appearances of 2024.

The Lions (5-1) will host the Tennessee Titans (1-5) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Detroit.
