Netflix competition series ‘Building the Band’ to star Nicole Scherzinger, Liam Payne, Kelly Rowland and AJ McLean

Netflix has announced that Nicole Scherzinger will serve as mentor and judge in the new unscripted series Building the Band. Joining Scherzinger as judges on Building the Band will be Liam Payne and Kelly Rowland, with AJ McLean serving as host of the series.

Per an official synopsis, ‘Building the Band’: “brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their own bands in individual “booths” without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry, and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal – to find the next great music band – the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.”

Remarkable Entertainment’s Cat Lawson shared in a statement: “Building the Band is a brave and bold undertaking for all involved as we hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first. With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates? With limited bands, there are difficult decisions and heart-stopping moments along the way, but ultimately the outcome is truly amazing, with bands forming, who in my opinion are worthy of the very biggest stage!”

Filming is set to begin shortly, with additional guest judges to be announced at a later date.

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson out for season’s first four games

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will remain on the physically unable to perform list and miss at least the first four games of the 2024 NFL season as he completes his recovery from a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. The news was anticipated after Hockenson suffered last December, and the team decided to place him on the reserve/PUP list rather than hold open a spot for him on its 53-man roster. He will be eligible to return for the Week 5 home game against the New York Jets on Oct. 6 in Minneapolis.

Hockenson was having the best year of his career with 95 catches for 960 yards and five scores through 15 games, before sustaining the season-ending ACL and MCL tears in his right knee on Dec. 24.  Hockenson’s medical team delayed his ACL surgery for 36 days to allow the MCL to heal first, with the expected nine-month recovery timetable always projected to be late September/early October.

The Vikings acquired Hockenson in 2022 from the Lions, since then, has caught more passes (155) than any other tight end in the NFL, for the second-most yards (1,479) in 25 career games with Minnesota.

The Vikings will start their season against the New York Giants on Sept. 8 in East Rutherford, N.J. They will then play the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers.

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb will start the 2024 season on the Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP List), which automatically warrants a four-game absence (per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.)

Chubb won’t be eligible to return until Week 5. The 28-year-old was initially placed on the list to begin training camp on July 24. With Chubb now out for at least four games, the Browns will enter the 2024 season with Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong Jr., and D’Onta Foreman among their healthy running backs.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb agrees to $136M extension with Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has agreed to a four-year, $136 million contract. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter post on X, “Cowboys and All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb reached agreement today on a record four-year, $136 million deal that now makes him the second highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. The deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver. Tory Dandy of CAA negotiated the deal with the Cowboys.” The deal comes after the Cowboys exercised the $18 million fifth-year option on Lamb’s rookie contract for the 2024 season in April.

Sources told NFL Network that the pact includes $100 million guaranteed. Lamb, 25, will receive a $38 million signing bonus, the most ever given to a wide receiver. Lamb’s $34 million average annual salary is the second-most among NFL wide receivers, trailing only the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson with $35 million.

The No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Lamb totaled career-highs with a league-best 135 catches, 1,749 yards and 14 total touchdowns over 17 starts last season. He logged 395 catches for 5,145 yards and 35 total touchdowns through his first 66 games with the Cowboys, and was named to his third straight Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career.

The Cowboys will face the Cleveland Browns in their season opener Sept. 8 in Cleveland.
