NBA Playoffs: Celtics eliminate Heat to advance, Mavericks defeat Clippers in Game 5

The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat on Wednesday night in Game 5 to close out the opening-round playoff series at TD Garden. Jaylen Brown finished with 25 points and six rebounds, and Derrick White had 25 points and six rebounds, while Jayson Tatum finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds

The Celtics won all four games in this series with double digits, and won by an average of 22 points per contest; they advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, where they’ll meet the winner of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Orlando Magic series (Cleveland holds a 3-2 series lead headed into Friday’s Game 6).

The Dallas Mavericks beat the Los Angels Clippers in a 123-93 victory Wednesday night, to take a 3-2 lead in the first-round series. Luka Doncic – playing on a sprained right knee and dealing with illness – scored 35 points in the second half and added 10 assists and seven rebounds, while Maxi Kleber hit five 3-pointers and Kyrie Irving added 14 points for the Mavericks on route to the win.

Game 6 will take place on Friday night in Dallas (Game 7 will be back in Los Angeles on Sunday, if necessary).

Stanley Cup Playoffs: Stars defeat Golden Knights, Oilers eliminate Kings to win series

The Dallas Stars beat the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series with a score of 3-2   The Stars won their third game in a row to take a 3-2 series lead.

Jason Robertson scored a power-play goal to put Dallas ahead late in the second period, with Evgenii Dadonov and Matt Duchene also scoring for the Stars.  Dallas will now look to advance to the second round with a win in Game 6 on Friday in Las Vegas.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in Game 5 on Wednesday to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Leon Draisaitl scored twice, while Zach Hyman and Evander Kane also scored to help Edmonton eliminate Los Angeles in the opening round for the third straight year.

The Oilers will face the winner of the matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators. Vancouver leads the series 3-2 heading into Game 6 on Friday in Nashville.

Jessica Biel to star in the Peacock limited series ‘The Good Daughter’

Peacock has ordered the limited series crime drama ‘The Good Daughter’, starring and executive produced by Jessica Biel.  The limited series is adapted from the Karin Slaughter novel “The Good Daughter”; and Slaughter will write all episodes and executive produce.

Biel will portray Charlotte, who survived a violent attack 28 years ago along with her sister, Samantha. The official series synopsis reads: “Sisters Charlotte (Biel) and Samantha Quinn have spent the last twenty-eight years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. Now a lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through one shocking revelation after another. In the end, both she and Samantha find themselves wondering if the price of being the good daughter was worth it after all.”

‘The Good Daughter’ is the second of Slaughter’s novels to be adapted for television by Made Up Stories, who previously produced a series version of her book “Pieces of Her,” which starred Toni Collette and aired on Netflix in March 2022. Slaughter’s ‘Will Trent’ novel series also serves as the basis for the hit ABC series “Will Trent,” which was recently renewed for a third season.

Jason Bateman, Jude Law to star in Netflix limited series ‘Black Rabbit’

Jason Bateman and Jude Law are set to star and executive produce the new Netflix drama series, ‘Black Rabbit’. The official series synopsis reads:“When the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) allows his turbulent brother (Bateman) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.”

Netflix also confirmed that Cleopatra Coleman (“Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire”), Amaka Okafor (“Bodies,” “The Responder”), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (“Gangs of London,” “Slow Horses”), and Dagmara Dominczyk (“Succession,” “The Lost Daughter”) will all star in the series, alongside Bateman and Law.

Bateman will direct the first two episodes of the one-hour drama, written and created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, who also serve as executive producers.

Billie Eilish to launch ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR’

Billie Eilish has announced she will embark on the “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour” of her third studio album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’, set for release on May 17th.

Eilish will embark on her North American leg of the tour in September, running through to the end of December 2024. The tour will continue in Australia starting February 2025 ahead of her European, UK, and Ireland arena dates from April until late July 2025 .

The North American leg includes multiple arena shows in a number of cities, including at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto; Madison Square Garden in New York City; State Farm Arena in Atlanta; United Center in Chicago; Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle; and Kia Forum in Inglewood.  Eilish will also make stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Newark, Boston, Nashville, Omaha, Denver, Portland, San Jose, and more.

Eilish is undertaking several sustainability measures for her world tour. She’s partnered with the nonprofit Reverb to make donations for environmental and climate justice projects. With Reverb, she’ll set up “eco-villages” at the shows for fans to learn more about the sustainability efforts. In addition, Eilish is working with Support+Feed to offer plant-based food options and encourage fans to plant-based foods more often.

Ed Sheeran to perform one-night-only ‘X (Multiply)’ 10th anniversary show in Brooklyn

Ed Sheeran announced he will perform a one-night-only special concert this month, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his album “X (Multiply)” with a special concert in May.

“X (Multiply)” was released back in 2014 and will turn 10 years old this June; it featured the singles “Sing,” “Don’t,” “Thinking Out Loud,” “Bloodstream” and “Photograph,” and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In celebration of his now iconic sophomore album, ‘X’, the concert setlist will reflect Sheeran’s ‘X (Wembley Edition)’ release from 2014.

Sheeran posted on Instagram: “10th anniversary of Multiply this year, which feels wild but also a lot has happened in that 10 years. This album was made from 2011 – 2014, and spanned my whole personal life through that time, which was a mad time. Going from playing pubs and and clubs to selling arenas in those years, falling in and out of love, travelling all around the world, it was a real rollercoaster, and it’s been amazing to revisit all the memories. Can’t wait to experience the multiply show with you, and remember some amazing moments over this summer together.”

Sheeran will also release an anniversary edition of X (Multiply) featuring nine additional tracks: “Take It Back,” “Shirtsleeves,” “Even My Dad Does Sometimes,” “I See Fire,” “All of the Stars,” “English Rose,” “Touch and Go,” “New York” and “Make It Rain.”  The album is scheduled for release June 21.

Sheeran has partnered with ‘Seated’ for an exclusive fan on-sale, where fans can register to be in with a chance of being selected for the opportunity to purchase tickets. Registration will close tomorrow (May 2) at 11:59 ET. Head HERE for information.

NHL Playoffs: Hurricanes, Avalanche clinch; Maple Leafs, Predators win Game 5

The Carolina Hurricanes clinched their first-round playoff series, eliminating the Islanders with a 6-3 win in Game 5 on Tuesday night at PNC Arena.  The Canes’ Teuvo Teravainen, Andrei Svechnikov and Evgeny Kuznetsov put Carolina up 3-1 in the first period, and after the Islanders scored in the second period, they fought back to re-take the lead.

The Hurricanes will face the New York Rangers in the next round; NY swept the Washington Capitals in their first-round series.

The Toronto Maple Leafs stayed alive with a 2-1 win in OT against the Boston Bruins in Game 5 on Tuesday at TD Garden. The Leafs’ Matthew Knies, 21, scored the winning goal, marking his third career playoff goal and his first postseason overtime winner. Jake McCabe scored the other goal for the Leafs in the victory, while Trent Frederic got Boston’s only goal.

Game 6 will take place on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The Colorado Avalanche will advance to the second playoff round after beating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 in Game 5 at Canada Life Centre on Tuesday. Mikko Rantanen scored two goals in the third period to put Colorado back in front 4-3, and made it 5-3 at 8:01; while Josh Manson scored an empty-net goal at 19:58 for the 6-3 final score.

The Avalanche will face the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars series, which is currently tied 2-2.

The Nashville Predators defeated the Vancouver Canucks and avoided elimination in Game 5 on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena with a 2-1 win. Alexandre Carrier’s go-ahead goal with 7:14 left gave the Predators the win, in a game that went scoreless after two periods. The Canucks now lead the series 3–2.

Game 6 is set to take place on Friday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

NBA Playoffs; 76ers, Cavaliers, Bucks win Game 5 matches

The Philadelphia 76ers avoided elimination by beating the NY Knicks in Game 5 with an 112-106 overtime win on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. Tyrese Maxey helped save the Sixers from elimination with a career playoff-high 46 points, nine assists and five rebounds, while Joel Embiid had 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. Tobias Harris had 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 14, and Nic Batum added eight, with eight rebounds.

Game 6 will take place on Thursday back in Philadelphia.

The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic in a narrow 104-103 win in Game 5 of their playoff series on Tuesday. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 26 points, with help from a lead-saving block by Evan Mobley to clinch the victory.

The Cavaliers and Magic will face-off in Game 6 on Friday in Orlando.

The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 in Milwaukee on Tuesday night 115-92. The Bucks’ Bobby Portis and Khris Middleton led with 29 points each to score the victory and avoid elimination.

Indiana now leads the series 3-2; Game 6 will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday in Indianapolis.
