Scottie Scheffler wins WM Phoenix Open; regains world No. 1 spot

Scottie Scheffler regained the top spot in the world rankings, successfully defending his WM Phoenix Open title. Scheffler carded a closing 65 at TPC Scottsdale to finish on 19 under par and two shots ahead of Canada’s Nick Taylor, who also shot 65 playing alongside Scheffler and world number three Jon Rahm. Rahm finished three shots behind Taylor in outright third place after a final round of 68. Scheffler’s win meant Rory McIlroy needed to finish third or better to remain top of the rankings, but but instead McIlroy settled for a tie for 32nd following a final round of 70.

Scheffler started the day with a two-shot lead and immediately saw that halved as playing partners Taylor and Rahm birdied the first, but he responded with birdies on the second and third. Taylor and Rahm both birdied the sixth to close the gap again and although Rahm bogeyed the eighth, Taylor’s birdies on the ninth and 10th gave the world number 223 a share of the lead. Scheffler reclaimed top spot with an eagle on the par-five 13th. Said Scheffler: “I’m just proud how I fought today. I didn’t have my best stuff, I grinded it out. I wasn’t hitting it good off the tee, my irons didn’t feel as sharp but I played a great round of golf.” Asked about the par save on the 16th, Scheffler added: “It was a big putt. That almost looked like it was going to be short for a while but that putt was really fast and just kept going. It was definitely a lot of fun to see that one go in.”

Chiefs defeat Eagles 38–35 to win Super Bowl LVII; QB Patrick Mahomes crowned MVP

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in a 38–35 victory, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes crowned as the MVP of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old Mahomes claimed his second career Super Bowl MVP after finishing 21-of-27 for 182 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. After trailing most of the game, Mahomes led Kansas City to a comeback victory.

The stellar performance from Mahomes came despite appearing to re-aggravate a right ankle injury he previously sustained in the divisional round; he hobbled off to the Chiefs’ sideline in noticeable pain and grimaced as he sat on the bench and spoke to the training staff. In the second half, K.C. outscored Philly following four scores on all four of their drives. The two-time MVP tossed two more down the stretch to keep even with the Eagles with a 35-35 score before kicker Harrison Butker followed a big Eagles holding penalty with a 27-yard field goal with eight seconds left to clinch the franchise’s third ever Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Watch Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Viola Davis in trailer for ‘Air’

The upcoming film “Air,” which tells the story of the creation of one of the most iconic pieces of footwear in history — Nike’s Air Jordan — has shared it’s first trailer.

Inspired by true events, the film is directed by Ben Affleck, who also stars alongside Matt Damon. Damon takes on the role of sneaker company executive Sonny Vaccaro, who lobbies Nike co-founder Phil Knight (portrayed by Affleck), with an idea to put the company on the map: creating “the greatest basketball shoe that’s ever been made,” built around a then-unknown college basketball player named Michael Jordan.

The trailer shows Damon’s Vaccaro courting Jordan’s mom Deloris, played by Viola Davis, all while trying to convince the company he’s not out of his mind.  The trailer closes with Affleck’s Knight asking of the shoe, “Got a name for it?” and Damon’s character replying “Air Jordan,” to which Affleck replies, “I dunno. Maybe it’ll grow on me.”

“Air” also stars Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker and Marlon Wayans, and hits theaters April 5.  You can check out the trailer – here.
