Bruce Willis Has Been Diagnosed With Dementia

Almost a year after Bruce Willis’ aphasia diagnosis was made public, his family has now shared an update with his fans.

“Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis. In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.”

Since sharing Bruce initial diagnosis, the family said that they now have a “more specific diagnosis” of frontotemporal dementia, known as FTD. They explained also what the diagnosis means for him.

“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone,” the note continued. “For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”

Boston Celtics became the first team to reach 30 wins this season

The Celtics became the first NBA team to win 30 games this season after beating the Pelicans last night. Superstars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for a total of 72 points. Jaylen scored a season-high of 41 points followed by 12 rebounds. Jayson dropped 31 points with 10 rebounds. Jaylen Brown scored most of his baskets from mid range and finishing after contact.

“I think I can get to the rim at a good rate this year,” Jaylen Brown told reporters afterwards, per the Celtics website. “I definitely want to keep that up.

“I don’t want to let the defense off the hook, but I feel good about a lot of the shots I took from three. Some of them went down, some of them haven’t. But I definitely still think I’m going to look to get to the basket a lot more for sure just for the remainder of the year.”

This was Brown’s sixth 40-point game of his career, pasting Sam Jones and Isaiah Thomas for the sixth-most in Celtics history.

Together with Jayson Tatum, the two players became the driving force behind Boston Celtics recent success.

Indianapolis Colts hire Shane Steichen as their new head coach

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday morning they have named former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their new head coach. Indianapolis had interviewed over a dozen candidates for the job, including interim coach Jeff Saturday, who went 1-7 after the club fired coach Frank Reich (now with the Panthers) during the season.

The 37-year-old Steichen becomes the 3rd-youngest head coach in the NFL. He first played football as a college quarterback for UNLV from 2003-2006. He spent the last two seasons as the Eagles offensive coordinator, helping develop quarterback Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia finished No. 3 in total yards and points scored in 2022. Before going to Philadelphia, Steichen had spent most of his coaching career with the Chargers, first as the club’s quarterbacks coach from 2016-2019 before being promoted to interim offensive coordinator in 2019. He took over that role full-time in 2020 and called plays for that season’s offensive rookie of the year, Justin Herbert.

Arizona Cardinals announce Jonathan Gannon as new head coach

The Arizona Cardinals announced Jonathan Gannon is officially their new head coach. The announcement on Tuesday afternoon came shortly after multiple reports that the team was finalizing a deal with Gannon to succeed Kliff Kingsbury as their head coach.

The move comes just days after Gannon served as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator in their loss vs. the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII at the Cardinals’ home stadium in Glendale. The Cardinals interviewed him for the first time on Monday, and things moved quickly from there.

Gannon takes over an Arizona team that went from making the playoffs in 2021, down to a disappointing 4-13 record in 2022. The organization also recently hired Monti Ossenfort as new General Manager. Gannon said in a statement: “I am super excited about the opportunity. I look forward to getting my hands on the players and putting a winning product on the field.”

Spider-Man Noir series in the works for Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is developing a live-action Spider-Man Noir series based on the Marvel comic. The as-yet untitled series, written and executive produced by Oren Uziel (The Lost City), ‘follows an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City.’  Sources close to the project say that the show is set in its own universe that involves an alternate Spider-Man character who is not Peter Parker. Uziel developed the series with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal who will serve as executive producers.

The Amazon project would be the first live-action depiction of Spider-Man Noir, an alternate version of Spider-Man which emerges in a version of New York during the Great Depression. In the comics, Peter Parker is bitten by a spider housed inside a spider-god idol, that gives him super-human powers.Previously announced Spider-Man spinoff series, Silk: Spider Society, is also moving forward at Amazon and MGM+, from Sony Pictures Television,

Kristen Stewart to portray Susan Sontag in new biopic

Kristen Stewart will star as feminist writer Susan Sontag in Sontag, an upcoming biopic. The film will actually begin filming at this month’s Berlin International Film Festival, where Stewart heads this year’s international jury. Says producer Gabrielle Tana, “It will be a drama, but with a documentary aspect to it. Kirsten has a wonderful approach to storytelling, and this is reflective of that, so she will use documentary in it.”

Sontag, who died in 2004, was a prolific essayist, novelist, and cultural critic; she opposed the Vietnam War, quantified the concept of camp in her essay Notes on “Camp”, and broke down the barriers between criticism of so-called “high” and “low” culture. The controversial writer criticized US foreign policy, highlighting government inaction on the AIDS crisis, and was open about her bisexuality at a time when that was uncommon.

Filming for Sontag will take place this year in Berlin, California, Paris, New York, and Sarajevo.

Pac-12 Conference board releases ‘united’ statement in light of expansion rumors

The Pac-12 Conference released a joint statement from its continuing members expressing confidence in “consummating” a media rights deal in the “near future.” The board is made up of the 10 continuing universities in the conference (aside from UCLA and USC, which will join the Big Ten in 2024.  The conference said in a statement released on Twitter: “The 10 Pac-12 universities look forward to consummating successful media rights deals in the very near future  Based upon positive conversations with multiple potential media rights partners over the past weeks, we remain highly confident in our future growth and success as a conference and united in our commitment to one another.”

The statement comes after attention has been centered around the Pac-12’s ongoing media rights negotiations and its pursuit of San Diego State and SMU.  The Pac-12 has “focused its efforts on evaluating” both schools to see if both are feasible for expansion, similar to what the Big 12 did several years ago before inviting UCF, Houston, Cincinnati and BYU to join.
