Washington Commanders release Carson Wentz after one season

The Washington Commanders announced on Monday they have released quarterback Carson Wentz after just one season. Wentz’s inconsistencies throughout the season saw head coach Ron Rivera bench him and playing Taylor Heinicke midway through the season.  The opt-out of Wentz’s contract allows the Commanders to now save $26,176,471 toward their cap.

The 30-year-old Wentz was a solid quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles playing a vital role in their 2018 run to the Super Bowl. However after a game vs. the Los Angeles Rams that season, Wentz fractured his vertebrae, sidelining him the rest of the year. In eight games last season (seven starts), Wentz went 2-5 with 1,755 yards on a 62.3 completion percentage with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He finished with a career-low 33.0 quarterback rate as well.

The Commanders’ focus is now on quarterback Sam Howell, the fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft]. With Wentz’s release and Heinicke set to become a free agent in March, Howell will be the only quarterback on the roster. Howell started just one game for the Commanders last season, resulting in a 26-6 in Week 17 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Howell went 11-for-19 for 169 yards with a touchdown and interception, while rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown as well.

The Marvel film fell behind every other comparable in its second-weekend performance: 2015’s Ant-Man dropped 56% in its sophomore week, while 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp fell 62% at the same point.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania fell further behind in its second frame than other Marvel titles including Thor: Love and Thunder (-68%), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (-67%), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (-63%).

Universal’s Cocaine Bear took second place with $23 million from 3,534 screens in its opening weekend. The horror-comedy surpassed expectations thanks to social media buzz created by Universal’s marketing campaign. Lionsgate’s Jesus Revolution brought in $15.52 million from 2,475 sites in its theatrical debut, with the film scoring an A+ CinemaScore rating.  Finally Avatar: The Way of Water finished in fourth place with $4.7 million from 2,495 locations in its eleventh weekend in release, brining its total to $664 million domestically . ‘Succession’ to end with Season 4 on HBO

The Emmy-winning HBO drama ‘Succession‘ will end with Season 4.  Creator and showrunner Jesse Armstrong confirmed that the upcoming fourth season will be its final run on the premium cable network. ‘Succession‘ earned the Emmy Award for best drama series for both its second and third seasons. The cast includes Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen and Sarah Snook, who have collected numerous wins among them.

Armstrong told the New Yorker that “there’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From season two, I’ve been trying to think: Is it the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?  I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started the writing of season four, in about November, December, 2021, and I sort of said, ‘Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?’ And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons. Or we could go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different, and be a more rangy, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.”

Armstrong then added: “I feel deeply conflicted. I quite enjoy this period when we’re editing — where the whole season is there — but we haven’t put it out yet. I like the interregnum. And I also quite liked the period where me and my close collaborators knew that this was probably it, or this was it, but hadn’t had to face up to it in the world. It’s been a difficult decision, because the collaborations — with the cast, with my fellow writers, with Nick Britell and Mark Mylod and the other directors — they’ve just been so good. And I feel like I’ve done the best work I can do, working with them. And HBO has been generous and would probably have done more seasons, and they have been nice about saying, ‘It’s your decision.’ That’s nice, but it’s also a responsibility in the end — it feels quite perverse to stop doing it.”

Atlanta Hawks sign Quin Snyder to five-year deal as new head coach

The Atlanta Hawks announced on Sunday that Quin Snyder has agreed to a five-year deal to become their new head coach. That five-year period includes this season, with Snyder expected to start with Atlanta on Tuesday when they face the Washington Wizards.

Snyder spent eight seasons coaching the Jazz, with Utah reaching the playoffs in six of his eight years at the helm. He achieved the NBA’s best regular-season record during the 2020-21 campaign, and he was a finalist for the NBA’s Coach of the Year award in 2018 and 2021.  However after repeatedly coming up short in the postseason year after year, Snyder resigned after last season.

The Hawks fired head coach Nate McMillan on Tuesday, but unlike Utah they reached the conference finals in the recent past thanks to a stellar 2021 run. However after they were knocked out in the first round last season and struggling to play .500 basketball this season, the Hawks let McMillan go. They have won their two games under interim coach Joe Prunty, and now hold a 31-30 record on the season.

ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs’ to end after 10 Seasons

ABC’s “The Goldbergs” is ending after 10 seasons. The finale for Season 10 is set to air on May 3, and will also serve as the series finale. Series creator Adam F. Goldberg loosely based ‘The Goldbergs’ on his own childhood in the 1980s, with the cast of the show comprised of Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, and Sam Lerner, with Patton Oswalt serving as the narrator.

‘The Goldbergs’ is currently the longest-running live-action network comedy on the air, but has dealt with controversies over the past few years. George Segal, who starred as Albert “Pops” Solomon on the show, passed away in early 2021, and series star Jeff Garlin exited the show later that same year following an HR misconduct investigation.

Series star and executive producer McLendon-Covey said in a statement: “It’s been an honor to be part of ‘The Goldbergs’ for the last decade. I’m really proud of what we accomplished with the show, and I’m so lucky to have had such a rewarding experience. I will miss my TV family and every last crew member. Thanks to our brilliant writers for giving us thoughtful story arcs year after year, and for being so collaborative. Thanks to the best EPs in the business. And thanks to all our fans (the Goldnerds) for being so sweet and supportive. My heart is full…But I definitely hope I never see another pair of shoulder pads for the rest of my life.”

Ed Sheeran launches hot sauce line with Kraft Heinz

The Kraft Heinz Company has unveiled their new collaboration with Ed Sheeran. The company and Sheehan co-created “the ultimate” hot sauce under the newly created ‘Tingly Ted’s’ brand name, which is available for pre-order now.

Sheeran, a self-proclaimed sauce fanatic, had already worked with Kraft Heinz on previous collaborations involving Heinz ketchup. He sought out the company to develop a hot sauce saying: “I love sauces, that’s no secret. But the older I’ve got, the more I love and need spice with every single meal. I travel a lot, so having a bottle in my suitcase wherever I go that can spice up any and every meal seemed like a good idea. I knew I didn’t wanna do a watery hot sauce, as they usually all get relegated to the same shelf of other random hot sauces. I wanted to make a sauce that took the same pride of place as ketchup. I had a year of whittling down the perfect flavors with a great mixing team, and we settled on two absolute belters. The Tingly and the Xtra Tingly. I’ve had them on tour with me recently to try them with all sorts of meals, and there really isn’t anything they don’t go with (except bananas, don’t do that) … I’m so excited to bring this product out, it’s genuinely something I use every day on all three meals. I hope you love them as much as I do x.”

Tingly Ted’s — named after Sheeran’s childhood nickname — comes in two flavors, and is made using red jalapeños and capsicum chillies. For more information, head to: www.tinglyteds.co.uk.
