Take a look at Will Smith in the first trailer for the film ‘Emancipation’

Apple has shared the first trailer for the historical drama Emancipation, starring Will Smith. Apple also confirmed that the film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, will debut in theaters on Dec. 2, and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ on Dec. 9.

Smith portrays Peter, a slave who escapes from a Louisiana plantation to join the Union Army’s fight against the Confederate States Army in the Civil War. The cast also features Ben Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, and Steven Ogg.

Production on ‘Emancipation‘ was delayed to 2023 earlier this year. In a post shared on Instagram, Smith described Emancipation as the “hardest movie I’ve ever made. Blood, sweat & tears… LITERALLY! Shoutout to Apple who doubled (and tripled) down on their commitment to deliver this epic story to the world.”

Take a look at the music video for 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Bad Omens”

5 Seconds of Summer has shared the music video for “Bad Omens.”, one of the tracks off their latest studio album, 5SOS5. 

Directed by Ukrainians Alyona Shchasnaia and Danny Mitri, the video depicts a pair of star-crossed lovers pushing the limits on how far we should go in the name of love. 5SOS shared in a statement on Instagram“We are really proud to have worked with Ukrainian directors Danny Mitri and Alyona Shchasnaia to shoot the video for ‘Bad Omens.’  Ashton had a vision that Alyona and Mitri took and developed into the beautiful metaphorical video you see today. This was the very first international commercial/video shoot in Ukraine since the war began so we want to thank Alyona, Mitri, and all the people involved in Ukraine who made this video possible. They were so passionate about shooting it and we are so grateful to have worked with them on it.”

Steve Lacy earns his first No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 with “Bad Habit”

After spending four weeks at No. 2, Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” has earned his first Hot 100 No. 1, knocking out Harry Styles’ “As It Was” from the top spot down to #2.

“Bad Habit” comes from Lacy’s sophomore album “Gemini Rights,” his first top 10 album on the Billboard 200. “Static” from the same set currently holds a No. 78 peak, while his 2017 track “Dark Red,” also rose 95-79 in its second week on the chart. According to Billboard, “Bad Habit” raked in 20.4 million streams and 40.3 million radio airplay audience impressions.

In an Instagram caption celebrating the occasion, the 24-year-old Lacy wrote: “damn i ain’t even have to change fr 😂😂 we #1 babyyyyy,” wrote Lacy in an Instagram post celebrating the achievement. “july 11th was my first entry at 100 and today oct 3rd my first entry at #1. wow oh wow. i feel heavy gratitude all over my body. u know how the story goessss and how it’s goin. iphone boy to superstar 🤷🏾‍♂️.”

Rounding out the top 5: Sam Smith and Kim Petras‘ “Unholy” enters the singles chart at No. 3, while Post Malone’s “I Like You (A Happier Song),” featuring Doja Cat, sits at No. 4; and Nicky Youre and Dazy’s “Sunroof” drops to No. 5.

Former NFL QB Blake Bortles announces retirement after 6 seasons

Former NFL quarterback Blake Bortles announced his retirement from the league on Wednesday at the age of 30.  Bortles made the announcement on the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast, saying win part: “I have not touched a football since January. I have officially retired … I didn’t tell anybody I retired. A couple of months ago, probably, just didn’t tell anyone. So, I guess you guys are kind of the first to hear it publicly, maybe?” While Bortles noted that he is “set” in his decision, he also admitted that he would return to the NFL if a team is willing to offer him a contract that is too good to pass up.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Bortles with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft out of UCF, where he served as the team’s primary starter in each of his first five seasons. Bortles also played for the Los Angeles Rams, and he was also under contract with the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints in 2021.

Bortles largely struggled over his career, and held a 24-49 record as a starter. His most successful season was in 2015, where he threw for a career-high 4,428 yards and 35 touchdowns, despite leading the league with 18 interceptions.  Two years later the Jags had one of their best seasons in franchise history (10-6) and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game with Bortles as the starter. Bortles then spent most of 2020 on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad, and was on the Packers’ and Saints’ rosters over the past few years but was cut before the campaigns started.

Indianapolis Colts Jonathan Taylor ruled out for Week 5 on Thursday vs. Denver Broncos

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been ruled out ahead of the Week 5 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

Taylor, who suffered an ankle injury during the fourth quarter of the Week 4 loss against the Tennessee Titans  With Taylor ruled out, the Colts are hoping to use running back Phillip Lindsay from the practice squad to share some work with Nyheim Hines, who is expected to be the starter. Deon Jackson also will serve as depth.

Along with Taylor, safety Julian Blackmon (ankle) was ruled out for Thursday night’s game; and linebacker Shaquille Leonard (concussion/nose/back) and defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis (concussion ) were ruled out earlier in the week.

Hilary Swank announces she is pregnant with twins

Actress Hilary Swank announced on Wednesday that she is expecting twins with her husband, Philip Schneider. Swank posted a video of herself holding her belly on Instagram along with the caption: “Coming soon…DOUBLE feature!”

During an interview with “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, the Oscar winner shared that she was going to be a first-time mom to twins, saying “It’s so nice to be able to talk about it, share it.” Swank, 48, also spoke about her pregnancy during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” on Wednesday, sharing that she is in her second trimester and “feeling great right now.”

After winning her first Academy Award for “Boys Don’t Cry,” Swank went on to win again an Oscar for “Million Dollar Baby,” after which she took a three-year gap from acting to care for her ailing father. She returned to acting in 2018 for the film “What They Had,” playing a woman caring for her mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. Swank married Schneider, a social venture entrepreneur, in 2018.

Alec Baldwin and producers of the film ‘Rust’ reach settlement with the estate of Halyna Hutchins regarding her death

On Wednesday, actor Alec Baldwin announced that he and the producers of his film ‘Rust’ have reached a settlement with the estate of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died after being shot on set nearly one year ago.  On Oct. 21, 2021. Baldwin was holding a prop gun, which was believed to be empty or “cold” when it discharged, hitting Hutchins and director Joel Souza. Souza survived the shooting.

As part of the settlement agreement, Hutchins’ husband Matthew Hutchins will become executive producer of ‘Rust’ when it resumes filming again in January. Matthew Hutchins had filed a wrongful death case against Baldwin and the movie. Hutchins said, according to Deadline.com: We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of ‘Rust,’ including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC.  As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed.”

Baldwin made his own statement on Instagram“Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

Michael Hutchins said the movie will continue with its original cast and hopes it will be a fitting tribute to his wife: “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

Coldplay forced to cancel tour dates due to frontman Chris Martin’s illness

Coldplay was forced to postpone their tour dates Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil after revealing that frontman Chris Martin is battling “a serious lung infection.”

The band wrote in a statement on social media: “With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023. Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks … We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible.”

Tickets to the canceled shows will be valid for the new rescheduled dates in early 2023, to be announced shortly. Requests for ticket refunds will also honored, which will be available at the point of sale.

Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour is scheduled to continue in Argentina on October 25, and the band has hope that  Martin will recover by that time to resume touring.

Sam Smith and Kim Petras share their video for ‘Unholy’

After going viral on TikTok in August, “Unholy” by Sam Smith and Kim Petras was released this month. Now the duo are back with a video for the smash hit.

“Unholy”, the lead single from Smith’s fourth studio album, has hit No. 1 worldwide on Apple Music and Spotify. Within the first 24 hours of release, the track ranked among the Top 10 Spotify debuts of all time. “Unholy” is Petras’ first No. 1 single at Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.

Smith said of the song, “‘Unholy’… was one of the most glorious creative moments I’ve ever had as an artist. I’ve never had so much fun making a record. It was so cathartic and freeing to experiment like this and throw out the rule book. It has also been an honor to work with Kim and get to witness her brilliance. This song is about liberating oneself from the clutches of others’ secrets…” Added Petras: “Sam really believed in me and encouraged me to be totally myself…I feel so honored that they chose me to be on this song.”

NY Islanders and forward Mathew Barzal agree to terms on 8-year, $73.2M extension

Star forward Mathew Barzal has agreed to terms with the New York Islanders on an eight-year extension worth $73.2 million with an annual salary cap hit of $9.15 million.

Barzal has led the team in scoring, or been tied for the lead, every season since he became a full-time NHL player in 2017-18. He has 349 points in 411 regular-season and playoff games for the Islanders.  In 73 games with the Islanders last season, Barzal registered 15 goals and 44 assists for 59 points, marking his fifth straight season he has led the Islanders in points.

The Islanders selected Barzal in the first round (16th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.   He said recently of the team: “We feel recharged. We feel like everybody had good summers and worked hard, and we got that excitement back.”

General manager Lou Lamoriello told reporters at the team’s practice facility on Long Island: “I’m a fan because Mat has the ability to raise his game and to be a special player. And now, with this contract and our faith in him, (it) puts that responsibility on him. We’re trusting that. It’s up to him to respond to that.”
