Post Malone shares update after falling on stage during St. Louis concert

Midway through his show at St. Louis’ Enterprise Center on Saturday, Post Malone took a nasty spill during his performance of ‘Circles,’ accidentally falling into an open trap door in the stage. See a fan video of Malone’s onstage fall in St. Louis: here.

Malone was walking down an extended ramp when he accidentally stepped into an uncovered hole that was used to lower his guitar. After crashing onto the stage floor, he clutched his ribcage in pain before calling for medical assistance. After leaving the stage for about 15 minutes, the singer returned and thanked the audience for their patience, telling the crowd:  “There was a big a** hole in the stage.” Still in pain while holding his side, Malone managed to finish with a shortened set that included “Rockstar,” “Cooped Up” (with Roddy Ricch), “Sunflower” and “White Iverson.”

Malone later took to Twitter on Sunday morning to explain what happened in a short video: “Whenever we do the acoustic part of the show, the guitar’s on the guitar stand and it goes down. And there’s this big ass hole, so I go around there and I turn the corner and I bust my ass. Winded me pretty good; got me pretty good.” The singer added that he was taken to the hospital and given a clean bill of health. “They gave me some pain meds and everything, so we can keep kicking ass on the tour.”

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams to have season-ending surgery on torn quad tendon

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is expected to have season-ending surgery to repair his torn quad tendon. Adams suffered the injury in Seattle’s 17-16 win over the Denver Broncos on Monday and will be placed on injured reserve. Adams recorded three tackles and one pass defensed before exiting in the first game of this season due to the aforementioned injury. Seattle signed cornerback Teez Tabor off the Falcons’ practice squad to fill Adams’ roster spot.

Adams began his career as a first-round pick of the New York Jets in 2017, but he has spent the last two seasons in Seattle. The Seahawks signed Adams to a four-year deal worth $72 million one year after acquiring him from the Jets. A three-time All-Pro, Adams reached the Pro Bowl in his first season in Seattle. Since then, however, Adams has struggled with injuries, missing five games in 2021.

Roger Federer announces his retirement from competitive tennis

Legendary tennis player Roger Federer announced on Thursday that he will retire from the sport after next week’s Laver Cup in London. The 41-year-old Federer posted a letter on social media saying he decided it was time to step away from the ATP Tour, the world’s top tier for men’s tennis.  Federer cited challenges “in the form of injuries and surgeries,” adding, “I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear….Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.”

Federer won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, and is considered one of the best players in the history of the sport.  Federer won his first major singles title in 2003 at the age of 21, and went on to dominate the sport along with fellow tennis greats Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – the “Big Three” of tennis — recognized as the best three men’s players. The ATP ranked Federer as No. 1 for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks. Of his 20 Grand Slam singles victories, his most came at Wimbledon, where he won a record eight times. His most recent Grand Slam final win was at the Australian Open in 2018, but in recent years, injuries have hindered his efforts to continue playing.

As he reflected on his career, Federer wrote: “This is a bittersweet decision, because I will miss everything the tour has given me. But at the same time, there is much to celebrate. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on Earth. I was given a special talent to play tennis, and I did it at a level that I never imagined, for much longer than I ever thought.”  Federer also thanked his fans for the support they gave him throughout his 24-year career:  “The inspiring feeling of walking into full stadiums and arenas has been one of the huge thrills of my life. Without you, those successes would have felt lonely, rather than filled with joy and energy.”

Wendy Williams seeks treatment for health and substance abuse issues at wellness facility

Wendy Williams’ publicist announced that the former talk show host has checked herself into a wellness center to focus on substance abuse and other health issues. Williams’ representative Shawn Zanotti said in a statement: “She [Williams] is taking some time to focus on her health and wellness as she prepares for a major comeback for the next level in her career with ‘The Wendy Experience Podcast.’  Ms. Williams is being treated by a team of some of the best doctors in the world. We ask for your prayers and well wishes during this time.”  Zanotti did not offer details into what type of facility Williams is being treated at.

The 58-year-old Williams has been open about struggling with substance abuse throughout her career. In 2019, she went on hiatus from her show for two months, in part to treat her Graves’ disease. However, she later revealed that she was living in a sober-living house to help maintain her sobriety.

The Wendy Williams Show officially wrapped its 13-year run in June, but Williams had been absent from her daytime show since October 2021.  Guest hosts including Sherri Shepherd (co-host of The View from 2007-2014), had filled in for her; and now Shepherd has taken over the program’s time slot with her own talk show, Sherri, which premiered this past Monday.

Denver Broncos place safety Justin Simmons on IR with quad injury

The Denver Broncos have placed safety Justin Simmons on injured reserve with a quad injury. Simmons is likely to miss “a few weeks,” and the team is hoping he can return shortly after the mandated four-game stay on IR.

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said Wednesday that Simmons suffered the injury late in Denver’s loss to the Seahawks. Despite the injury, Simmons played 100 percent of the defensive snaps Monday night and had a team-high nine tackles and a fumble recovery in the loss.

Simmons, who earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2021, has not missed a game since Week 17 of the 2017 season, tallying 66 straight starts. From 2018 to 2020, he played every single defensive snap. Last season, he played 99 percent of the snaps.

L.A. Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen to sit out Thursday’s game vs. Kansas City Chiefs with hamstring injury

The Los Angeles Chargers announced Wednesday that wide receiver Keenan Allen has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a hamstring injury.  Allen injured his hamstring in the second quarter of Los Angeles’ 24-19 win against the Raiders on Sunday. He caught four passes for 66 yards before exiting.

Over the course of his 10-year career, the 30-year-old Allen has appeared in at least 12 games during seven of those seasons. The only significant time he missed was after he tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2016 campaign. He has been one of the Chargers’ top receivers since 2013 when the team was still in San Diego. He has five seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards and has earned five All-Star selections.

The Chargers are 1-0 to start this season; it is expected that Allen could likely return for Week 3 when Los Angeles faces the Jaguars on Sept. 25.

Broadway’s Cort Theatre is officially renamed the James Earl Jones Theatre

Broadway’s Cort Theatre, located on West 48th Street in Manhattan’s Theater District, has been officially renamed the ‘James Earl Jones Theatre.’ The 18th century French-inspired building, which holds up to 1,082 people, is the theater where James Earl Jones made his Broadway debut in 1958.

A star-studded dedication ceremony featured actors Norman Lewis and Brian Stokes Mitchell, New York Mayor Eric Adams, and Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson. Jones, who is 91, did not attend. The attendees shared remarks about the impact Jones had on other artists.  Said Jackson: “If you are an actor or you aspired to be an actor or you pounded the pavement in these streets looking for jobs and doing things — one of the standards that we always had was to be a James Earl Jones.”

Jones is an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner. He gave his first onstage performance at the Cort Theatre in 1958, playing Edward in “Sunrise at Campobello.” Jones also performed in 14 theatrical productions at Shubert theaters and starred in 21 Broadway shows, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
