Grammy Award-Winning rapper Coolio dies at age 59

Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez Posey, has confirmed to TMZ and Rolling Stone that the rapper has died at age 59. The Grammy Award winner (born Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) was visiting a friend on Wednesday, September 28, when he suddenly passed away.

Posey revealed to TMZ that Coolio’s friend grew concerned when the rapper was indisposed for an extended period of time and didn’t respond to his name being called, when he eventually went and found Coolio unresponsive. An ambulance was called and EMTs pronounced the rapper dead on the scene. Posey said the paramedics suspect Coolio went into cardiac arrest, though an official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Coolio, perhaps best known for his 1995 Grammy-Award winning single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” released eight solo studio albums between 1994 and 2009, and also appeared on the big screen in 1997’s Batman & Robin opposite George Clooney, Get Over It with Kirsten Dunst in 2001, and Ben Affleck‘s 2003 Daredevil movie. He also made memorable appearances on television shows including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Nanny, Charmed and Teachers.

Coolio was married to Josefa Salinas from 1996 to 2000. They shared four kids, daughters Artisha, Brandi, Jackie and son Artis, who co-starred with him on the 2008 reality series Coolio’s Rules.

Post Malone is back on tour after being hospitalized due to injury from fall on stage

Post Malone took the stage in Cleveland on Tuesday after being hospitalized with a broken rib following a nasty fall at a previous show, and he also performed at his tour stop in Pittsburgh on Sept. 28.

The news comes after 27-year-old was forced to cancel his show in Boston on Sept. 24 after waking up to “cracking sounds” on the right side of his body. He wrote on Twitter at the time: “I’m having a very difficult time breathing, and there’s like a stabbing pain whenever I breathe or move. We’re in the hospital now, but with this pain, I can’t do the show tonight. I’m so f–king sorry.”

On Sept. 18, Post was performing in St. Louis when he took a tumble after stepping on an uncovered hole on stage. Video capturing the scary moment shows the singer slamming into the ground and writhing in pain while security guards rushed to make sure he was okay. After being helped off stage, he came back out saying he was sorry, and finished the concert. Doctors found a small fracture in his rib cage after he got a CAT scan and X-Rays done.

Hurricane Ian causes rescheduling of college and professional sports games taking place in Florida

Several college football games were relocated and/or scheduled due to the impending impact of Hurricane Ian throughout Florida. The storm also will affect this week’s NFL and NHL schedules.

Florida was scheduled to host Eastern Washington at noon EDT Saturday in Gainesville, Fla, but that game was moved to noon Sunday on the Gators’ campus.

South Florida was scheduled to face East Carolina on Saturday in Tampa; however, that game will now be played at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Florida Atlantic University Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. South Florida vice president of athletics Michael Kelly said Tuesday: “With Hurricane Ian building into a powerful and potentially very impactful storm on the Bay area, the people and resources in our community, we felt it was in everyone’s best interest to move our game out of the Tampa Bay area.”

South Carolina announced Tuesday that its game against South Carolina State, scheduled for Saturday, was moved to 7 p.m. Thursday in Columbia, S.C. South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner said: “Due to the potential impact of the hurricane on Columbia and the surrounding area, it is in the best interest of safety to play the game on Thursday rather than Saturday afternoon.”

As of press time, Central Florida is still planning to host SMU on Saturday in Orlando, Fla; and Florida State is still scheduled to host Wake Forest on Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. Clemson also is still on track to host N.C. State on Saturday in Clemson, S.C., which is located about 1:30 miles west of Columbia.

The NFL and NHL schedule also was impacted due to the weather in Florida. The Tampa Bay Lightning postponed two preseason games, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators, respectively. They did not announce make-up dates for those games. In the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday that they relocated football operations from Tampa, Fla., to Miami due to the path of the hurricane. The Buccaneers are still scheduled to host the Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

NY Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffers torn ACL

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced that veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard’s left knee injury is in fact a torn ACL.  Shepard suffered the injury on the Giants’ final offensive play during Monday Night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Shepard was just three games into a comeback from a season-ending torn Achilles from last year, when jogging along the turf he suddenly reached down and grabbed his left knee, falling to the turf and then was quickly carted off the field. After the game, Daboll sounded grim about Shepard’s prognosis but did not make any announcements until Shepard underwent tests on Tuesday morning.

The Giants will now need to turn to players currently on the roster and practice squad to take Shepard’s place. Daboll said of players including David Sills V, Richie James, Darius Slayton, and practice squad players like Kalil Pimpleton and Marcus Johnson: “(General manager) Joe (Schoen) is always looking, but those guys right now who we have, we’re gonna expect them to come out here, keep improving, work hard. They’ve been picking up our stuff. We’ll see as we go.”

Shepard’s injury also raised questions about the suitability of the MetLife Stadium turf, which has caused its share of injuries over the years.  Daboll said: “I’m sure that throughout the season and the off-season, we’ll sit down and discuss those types of things.”

Cleveland Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett injured in car accident

Myles Garrett, All-Pro defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, suffered non-life-threatening injuries as the result of a single-car car crash in Medina County on Monday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed the news, nothing that a female passenger was also with Garrett in the vehicle. Garrett was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, and his female companion was transported to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital.

Garrett was driving a gray 2021 Porsche when the accident occurred on State Road just south of State Route 18. The 26-year-old was on the right side of the roadway when he lost control and his vehicle was overturned. Both Garrett and his female companion were wearing their seatbelts. Impairment is not suspected.

The 6-foot-4, 272-pound Garrett was the No. 1 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, and over five seasons in the league has established himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL.  Garrett is currently one sack away from surpassing linebacker Clay Matthews Jr. as the Browns’ official all-time career sacks leader.
