American Frances Tiafoe upsets No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal with win in fourth round of U.S. Open

24-year-old Frances Tiafoe put on the performance of his career on Monday at the U.S. Open, with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 upset win over 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the fourth round.

Tiafoe, who has just one ATP title on his résumé, advances to the quarterfinals of a major for just the second time in his career and first since the 2019 Australian Open. He faces No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

With Nadal’s exit following the defeat of No. 1 seed and defending champion Daniil Medvedev on Sunday, the men’s tournament is officially wide open. The favorite for the title may well be Nick Kyrgios, who made the Wimbledon final earlier this year and knocked Medvedev out of the tournament.

An American hasn’t won the U.S. Open since Andy Roddick in 2003. Tiafoe, ranked 26th in the world, has an amazing backstory — his parents won a green card lottery to immigrate to the U.S. from Sierra Leone, West Africa, and Tiafoe learned tennis at the College Park, Md., facility where his father was a custodian.

Nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters signs with the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have signed nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters, who played 15 games for Chicago last season after 11 years with the Eagles.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy welcomed Peters’ ability on the field, saying: “You have a chance to look at the video, obviously you have a tremendous amount of respect for what Jason has accomplished throughout his career. This is about adding depth and bringing another excellent player into your program. … We do have a lot of young offensive linemen that will benefit from his mentorship.”

First-round rookie Tyler Smith is expected in the Cowboys’ Week 1 starter on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Peters said he needs a couple weeks to acclimate to pads and helmet work after keeping up with lifting and cardio through August. He said he’ll embrace a role as starter or depth, adding: “If Smith gets in there and starts rolling and they want to keep him, I am just going to help him. I ain’t no guy who is going to feel some way if I don’t start. If they ask me to start, I am going to get in there and go to work.”

In 17 seasons, Peters has played 228 regular-season games with 218 starts, primarily at left tackle (he played right tackle in 2004-06). Peters’ 11-year Eagles stint included a Super Bowl championship.

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ reissued after ‘Stranger Things’ success

37 years after its initial release, Kate Bush’s hit track “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” has been reissued as a CD single. The song, which amassed a huge resurgence due to its use in Season 4 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, was originally a part of Bush’s 1985 album “Hounds of Love.”

As described on the website, the CD will feature a “period correct” artwork and a B-side. The single cover features a throwback photo of Bush aiming a bow and arrow. Aside from “Running Up That Hill,” the tracklist also features “Uner the Ivy.” The song is available via Rhino here.

After the single was used on the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” it immediately garnered massive success. In a rare interview with the BBC in June, Bush said she knew the song would gain attention again, but she never imagined it to be this big because “the whole world’s gone mad.  The thought of all these really young people hearing the song for the first time and discovering it is, well, I think it’s very special.”

The Weeknd forced to cut short his Los Angeles concert after losing his voice

After performing only a few songs during the second night of his two sold-out concerts at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Saturday, The Weeknd was forced to cut the show short after losing his voice. During his performance of “Can’t Feel My Face” The Weeknd lost his voice, stopped and then came out onstage to tell the crowd: “I can’t give you the concert I want to give you. I’m going to make sure everyone’s good, gets your money back, and I’ll do a show real soon for you guys, but I wanted to come out and personally apologize and not tweet it or Instagram it. I wanted you guys to know that I can’t give you what I want to give you. I apologize. I’m so sorry.  You know how much this kills me. I love you. Thank you so much.”

In a Twitter post, he wrote: “My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped.  My deepest apologies to my fans here.  I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.”

The Weeknd’s stadium tour then got off to a rocky start in July in his hometown of Toronto, which had to be postponed because of a Rogers wireless network outage. The tour is now expected to move on through Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa & Middle East.

Sources told NFL Network and other sports outlets on Thursday morning about the deal between Wilson and the Broncos; his combined deals are now worth a total of nearly $300 million. Wilson is set to make an average annual value of $49 million, second only to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers ($50.2M).

Shia LaBeouf joins the cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming feature film ‘Megalopolis’

Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming $100 million feature film “Megalopolis” has added actor Shia LaBeouf to the star-studded cast.  Coppola’s passion project, slated to begin production this fall, stars Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight and Laurence Fishburne. Talia Shire (Coppola’s sister who starred in his “Godfather” films), Jason Schwartzman, Grace Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and James Remar have also joined the cast.

Coppola wrote the screenplay for the film in the 1980s, and is financing the dream project himself. The plot has remained largely under wraps, but the film’s official logline teases new details: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.”

LaBeouf’s casting comes after the actor had been blacklisted from Hollywood after musician FKA Twigs, his former romantic partner, filed a lawsuit against him for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress in 2020. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleged multiple incidents of physical abuse during the couple’s one-year relationship in 2018 and 2019. The lawsuit currently has yet to go to trial.

LaBeouf sought inpatient treatment after the allegations surfaced, and is set to appear in Abel Ferrara’s “Padre Pio,” which will open at the Venice Film Festival’s Venice Days section later this summer.
