Buffalo Bills place cornerback Tre’Davious White on reserve/PUP list

Nine months after tearing his ACL, the Buffalo Bills have placed star cornerback on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, guaranteeing he’ll miss at least the first four games of the 2022 season. White hasn’t played since suffering his season-ending knee injury last Thanksgiving.

White has been one of the NFL’s top players at his position. The two-time Pro Bowler and 2019 All-Pro led the league with six interceptions in 2019 and has logged at least 10 pass deflections three different times.

The 27-year-old spent all summer in rehab, working with strength and conditioning staff behind the scenes, and now won’t be eligible to begin practicing with the team until after Week 4. Players who open the regular season on PUP have 21 days to be activated to the 53-man roster once designated to return.

In White’s absence, the Bills are expected to utilize veteran Taron Johnson, second-year starter Dane Jackson and rookie first-rounder Kaiir Elam at corner.

Buffalo Sabres sign Tage Thompson to 7-year extension worth $50M

The Buffalo Sabres signed forward Tage Thompson to a seven-year extension worth $50 million on Tuesday, beginning in 2023-24. The 24-year-old Thompson has one year remaining on his current deal with a cap hit of $1.4 million, and would have become a restricted free agent once the contract expired.

Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said:  “Tage Thompson embodies the pride we expect from every player who wears the Buffalo Sabres sweater. His success last season is a testament to his unrelenting dedication to his craft and commitment to bettering the team both on and off the ice, which we believe will help us reach even greater heights moving forward.”

Selected by St. Louis in the first round of the 2016 draft, Buffalo acquired Thompson in 2018 as part of the package that sent Ryan O’Reilly to the Blues. Thompson ranks third among Sabres forwards with 66 hits in 2021-22, and broke through this past campaign with 38 goals in 78 contests.  In total, Thompson has 56 goals and 47 assists in 223 career NHL games.

Megan Thee Stallion joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe with role on Disney+ series ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’

Megan Thee Stallion is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Megan has been cast in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ Marvel’s latest Disney+ TV series. The superhero legal drama follows Jennifer Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany), an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented cases who must navigate her personal and professional life as she becomes She-Hulk.

She-Hulk premiered on Disney+ in mid-August 2022, releasing episodes weekly each Thursday. The first season of the show will conclude on October 13.  Actor Josh Segarra, who plays attorney Augustus “Pug” Pugliese on the show, hinted at Megan’s upcoming storyline: “A gentleman is being catfished by somebody that lives in another universe, let’s say. Another world. So he thinks he’s dating one person, and he’s not, so we need to help him figure that out.”

She-Hulk is one of many TV and film projects for Megan, who was cast earlier this year in the comedy musical F*cking Identical Twin. The rapper also made a cameo in early August as her alter ego Tina Snow in the second season of Starz’s P-Valley.

Actress Charlbi Dean, star of ‘Triangle of Sadness’ and ‘Black Lightning’, dies at age 32

Charlbi Dean, a South African actor known for her roles in Triangle of Sadness and Black Lightning, has died at age 32.  According to Deadline and Variety, Dean died in a New York City hospital on Monday following an unspecified illness.

Dean, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, was discovered as a model at just six years old. She appeared on the cover of a number of well-known magazines, including the South African versions of GQ and Elle.  Dean made her acting debut in the 2010 South African film Spud; she also had roles in Death Race 3: Inferno, Blood in the Water and An Interview with God, and in 2013 filmed a sequel to Spud titled Spud 2: The Madness Continues. 

Dean had a recurring role in the superhero television series Black Lightning on The CW, portraying orphan-turned-assassin Syonide in nine episodes of the show over its first two seasons. Her most notable role to date was in the 2022 film Triangle of Sadness, marking her first appearance in a major Hollywood film.  The film, also starring Dolly de Leon and Woody Harrelson, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this past May, where it received critical acclaim and an eight-minute standing ovation. It went on to win the festival’s highest prize, the Palme d’Or — considered one of the most prestigious honors in the film industry.  The film will debut in theaters on Oct. 8.

At the time of her death, Dean was engaged to male model Luke Volker.

Dove Cameron shares the video for ‘Breakfast’

Dove Cameron has shared her new music video “Breakfast,” directed by Lauren Dunn.  The video for “Breakfast” paints a picture of what the world would look like if gender roles were reversed and men experienced what many women face daily.

Said Cameron of the video: “I was feeling incredibly disillusioned watching the recent SCOTUS ruling and I couldn’t wrap my head around making a music video at a time when I felt so desolate. With this video, I want to show the disturbing contrast between stylized femininity and masculine power and the gender stereotypes that plague our social commentary. I want the audience to notice how strange it is to watch the roles be reversed and it was important to highlight how ingrained these roles really are in our nervous systems. This is a video to remind us that ‘how it’s always been’ should never be a reason for desensitization or upholding broken systems. Hopefully by re-contextualizing these familiar scenes, this video will encourage people to vote for a world where we leave gender discrimination as a thing of the past and stop bringing the past into the present.”

“Breakfast” is the follow up to Dove’s RIAA-certified gold pop song “Boyfriend,” which has over 349 million streams worldwide to date, peaking at No. 2 on Top 40 radio and No. 10 on the Spotify US chart since its release.

Noah Cyrus collaborates with Death Cab For Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard on ‘Every Beginning Ends’

Noah Cyrus has teamed up with Death Cab For Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard on her latest single, “Every Beginning Ends,” accompanied by a video directed by Lance Bangs (which you can view here). “Every Beginning Ends” will be included on Cyrus’ upcoming debut studio album, The Hardest Part, due out on Sept. 16.  To pre-order, head here.

Cyrus says of the collaboration with Gibbard: “I’ve always been such a huge fan, so it was pretty daunting to get in the room with him, but once we got to work it all came very naturally. We talked about past relationships, failed relationships, our parents’ relationships and relationships that have lasted forever. He told me his dad has a saying: ‘you have to wake up and choose to love someone every day,’ and it sparked this conversational song about the twilight of a relationship and the reluctance to admit that something has run its course. I relate to that in many ways, not only with me, but also just with my parents’ relationship. Writing about that gave me more understanding.”

Miami Dolphins release veteran running back Sony Michel

On Monday. the Miami Dolphins announced the release of veteran running back Sony Michel, a former Patriots first-rounder who signed with the Dolphins in May as a free agent.

Michel won the second Super Bowl of his career and rushed for 845 yards with the Rams last season, but was also routinely limited in practice for health reasons, and uneven in his performance.  The Dolphins owe Michel the guaranteed portion ($850,000) of the one-year, $2.1 million deal he signed with the team.  Michel has run for 3,137 yards and 18 TDs in his four NFL seasons, including helping New England earn the championship in Super Bowl LIII.

Along with Michel, the Dolphins also announced the release of RBs Gerrid Doaks and ZaQuandre White, whom were among 13 cuts on by the team on Monday.

San Francisco 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo agree to restructured deal

The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to terms on a restructured one-year contract that will make him the highest-paid backup in the NFL.  Garoppolo lost his starting spot to Trey Lance earlier this offseason.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Garoppolo will earn a fully guaranteed base salary of $6.5 million. Additionally, the 30-year-old Garoppolo’s new contract reportedly includes $500K in roster bonuses and playtime bonuses that could boost the overall value by an additional $9 million.

Schefter also reports that San Francisco included no-trade and no-tag clauses in the contract, allowing veteran QB time to decide his fate as a free agent next offseason.

Joe Pesci to play Pete Davidson’s grandfather in new series ‘Bupkis’

Peacock announced that Joe Pesci has joined the cast of Bupkis, the new streaming series created and starring Pete Davidson. The 78-year-old Pesci will play Davidson’s grandfather in the show inspired by Davidson’s life. Edie Falco, 59, will portray Davidson’s mother.

Davidson, 28, co-wrote the half-hour comedy with Dave Sirius, who also co-wrote Davidson’s movie The King of Staten Island. Judah Miller is showrunner and Lorne Michaels executive produces. Davidson ended his run on Saturday Night Live this past 47th season.

Peacock has not announced the start of production, or a release date for Bupkis.

Netflix’s ‘Resident Evil’ canceled after one season

The live-action Netflix series “Resident Evil” has been canceled after just one season. The eight-episode first season premiered on Netflix this July 14.

Based on the video game franchise of the same name, the show followed Jade Wesker’s (Ella Balinska) fight for survival in a world overrun by blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father Albert’s (Lance Reddick) connections to the Umbrella Corporation, and by what happened to her sister, Billie (Siena Agudong). Additional cast members included: Tamara Smart, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gosatti and Turlough Convery.

The first “Resident Evil” game was released in 1996. Since then, the game and new entries in the franchise have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Additionally, the film franchise has grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide; and there are also “Resident Evil” animated films, comic books, and novels.
