Meghan King reveals separation from husband Cuffe Biden Owens after 2 months of marriage

Former “Real Housewives of Orange County” cast member Meghan King has split from husband Cuffe Owens after just two months of marriage. Owens is the son of Valerie Owens, who is President Biden’s younger sister.

The 37-year-old King revealed news of the split from Owens, 42, in a series of Instagram stories on Monday. King wrote: “I’ve been asked by many outlets and individuals to comment on the state of marriage. I am rattled. This situation is profoundly devastating. This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I’m shocked and saddened by the way things turned out. I am moving forward with my children as we privately process our pain and begin to let go of shattered dreams. At this time I ask for your grace and gentle kindness as I navigate this labyrinth of grief with my family.”

King and Owens were married in Pennsylvania on October 11 in an intimate family ceremony that was attended by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. King first introduced Owens as her boyfriend in late September on social media, sharing a photo of her and Owens with their arms around each other and saying: “Trying my best to avoid any cheesy introductions like ‘my main squeeze’… so just meet my man.”

King was a main cast member on “Real Housewives of Orange County” for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.  She split from Jim Edmonds in 2019 after five years of marriage.  Edmonds and King share daughter Aspen, 5, and twin sons Hart and Hayes, 3.

Fenway Bowl, Military Bowl are both canceled amid COVID-19 outbreaks

Two more college football bowl games were canceled Sunday due to COVID-19 complications among the teams set to participate in the events. The 2021 Military Bowl was canceled after Boston College was forced to pull out of the game against East Carolina as it was short on available players due to a combination of COVID-19 cases and injuries; and the Fenway bowl between SMU and Virginia was canceled after Virginia was unable to travel after players on the team tested positive for the virus.

Boston College said it did not have enough players to field a team with more than 40 players sidelined due to COVID-19 cases, season-ending injuries opt-outs and transfers. Said Boston College coach Jeff Hafley: “This is not the way we wanted to see this season come to an end,” We just do not have enough players to safely play a game. My heart goes out to our seniors who will not have one final opportunity to wear a BC jersey and I can’t thank them enough for all the contributions they made to our program.”

Virginia said the entire team was tested Christmas morning after some players had tested positive ahead of the team’s departure, with additional positives revealed Sunday keeping the team from being able to participate in the bowl game. Virginia athletic director Carla Williams said:  “We are extremely disappointed the team will not be able to participate in the inaugural Fenway Bowl. Playing this game was something our team very much looked forward to and it is unfortunate Coach Mendenhall will not have one last opportunity to coach this group.”

In addition to the Military Bowl and Fenway Bowl, the Hawaii Bowl between Hawaii and Memphis on Christmas Eve had already been canceled after the former backed out; and Texas A&M was forced to pull out of the Gator Bowl due to COVID-19 issues — however, Rutgers stepped in as a replacement to allow the Bowl to take place.

NHL to bring back taxi squads when regular season resumes

The National Hockey League is tentatively set to resume its regular season on Tuesday, after COVID outbreaks throughout the league forced an extended holiday break to be taken. Some adjustments to minimize schedule disruptions and keep the 2021-22 season going will be instituted, specifically, the re-introduction of taxi squads that teams will be able to draw from to keep their numbers up.

The NHL will now permit its teams to use a reserve squad consisting of up to six players when the regular season resumes, re-introducing the taxi squads that were featured during the league’s shortened 2021 season. Taxi squad players will count as being in the minors for NHL salary cap purposes, and they will be able to be on the taxi squad for a maximum of 20 days. The new taxi squads are set to be in effect through at least the NHL All-Star break in early February.

In addition to the taxi squads, the NHL will now also permit teams to make emergency recalls from the minor leagues should COVID-related absences prevent them from fielding a full lineup of players. Any team that is unable to have at least 12 forwards, six defensemen, and two goalies available will be able to bring up a player from the American Hockey League to prevent playing a game with less than 18 skaters.

The changes were prompted after the NHL was forced to begin its annual Christmas break early due to the spread of COVID throughout the league, which forced a total of 64 games to be postponed.

Three members of K-pop supergroup BTS test positive for COVID-19

Vocalist Jin and rapper RM of the South Korean pop supergroup BTS have tested positive for COVID-19. The news comes just one day after vocalist Suga was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Big Hit Music made the announcement on Twitter, saying that RM initially tested negative eight days ago upon returning to South Korea following a vacation in the United States. After completing a government-mandated quarantine for overseas travel, he was tested again and showed a positive result, it said.  RM is not exhibiting any symptoms as of press time.  Jin tested negative twice earlier this month, once when he returned from a U.S. trip and again when he left quarantine. After experiencing symptoms on Saturday, he was again tested and showed a positive result for COVID-19.  Big Hit said Jin is experiencing mild symptoms including a light fever and is undergoing self-treatment at home.
