Milwaukee Brewers clinch NL Central title for third time in win against NY Mets

The Milwaukee Brewers are the 2021 NL Central champions, having clinched the division title Sunday afternoon with their 8-4 win over the NY Mets. Milwaukee had already clinched a postseason spot last week, but Sunday’s victory confirmed they will avoid the win-or-go-home Wild Card Game. The Brewers had been in sole possession of first place in the NL Central since June 23, two games into an 11-game winning streak. Milwaukee clinched the division in front of an announced sellout crowd of 43,430 at American Family Field.

The Brewers last won the NL Central in 2018, when they beat the Cubs in a Game 163 tiebreaker to clinch the division. This is only Milwaukee’s third division title since moving from the AL Central to the NL Central 1998. They also won the division in 2011 and 2018. The Brewers also won two division titles during their time in the AL East (1981 and 1982).

The Brewers will host either the Braves or Phillies when the NLDS begins on Friday, Oct. 8.

NY Giants Nick Gates still in hospital with potential career-ending leg injury

NY Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates is still in a Northern Virginia hospital after sustaining a severe le injury in a game against the Washington Football Team last Thursday night. Gates has already undergone surgery to repair a compound fracture of his lower leg, and will need several additional procedures to accelerate his recovery and the rehabilitation process.

When asked if Gates’ career may be over as a result of the injury, Giants head coach Joe Judge said: “I’d be lying, from my perspective, if I said no. I know there’s comparisons to other players, these things are all different. I know he’s going to have the best medical care possible … so we’re confident he’s going to be able to come back. My fear, for any guy who has something like this, is yes, it can be career-ending.”

Gates started at center in Week 1 and left guard in Week 2, so the Giants will be starting their third different offensive line combo when they face the Falcons this weekend.

John says in a statement: “With ‘After All’ Charlie and I were in the studio, just the two of us. He’s got a little home set up with his keyboards, synths, and Pro Tools. I played electric piano and actually wrote the song all the way through and then Charlie wrote the lyrics pretty quickly. He’s incredibly quick, Charlie. We just had an amazing chemistry in the studio.”

Puth added, “As a songwriter, I have admired and looked up to Elton John my entire life. It is truly incredible how the melodies and chords seem to come to him instantly whenever he sits down at the piano. I got to witness that firsthand when we wrote this song together. He is world-class and the true definition of a musical genius. Being a part of his musical journey is a dream come true.”

The Weeknd hit with copyright lawsuit over ‘Call Out My Name’

The Weeknd, along with collaborators Nicolas Jaar and Frank Dukes, are being sued by Suniel Fox and Henry Strange, who make up the group Epikker. The lawsuit accuses the Weeknd, Jaar and Dukes of plagiarizing their 2015 song “Vibeking” for his 2018 single, “Call Out My Name.”

The suit alleges, “Both works are in a minor key. Both works are in a 6/8 meter that is less common in popular music. Both works are played at a similar tempo. And both works use features of electronica, ambience, pop, hip-hop, rock, and R&B to achieve a particular atmospheric and melancholic sound.”  Fox and Strange allege they were in correspondence with the Weeknd’s DJ and engineer PNDA, who told them that he wasn’t going to credit them on the song. The two artists seek all profits that “Call Out My Name” has amassed, along with legal fees, and want the Weeknd blocked from performing the song until the case is settled. Universal Music Group and other entities that back the Weeknd were also named in the suit.

“Call Out My Name” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and amassed over 700 million YouTube views and 836 million Spotify streams. Fox and Strange’s “Vibeking” is currently unavailable on any streaming services.
