Seattle pitcher Hector Santiago suspended 10 games for foreign substance on glove

Seattle Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago has been suspended 10 games and fined an undisclosed amount for a foreign substance found on his glove against the White Sox on Sunday. Santiago, who plans to appeal the ruling, will be allowed to play until the appeal process is complete.

The 33-year-old Santiago is the first player to be ejected for pitch doctoring since MLB began enforcing the new rules against foreign substances. The new rules included umpire checks on pitchers every few innings.  Umpire Phil Cuzzi found a sticky substance on Santiago’s glove when he was checked after being taken out in the fifth inning on Sunday. The glove was then put in a plastic bag by an MLB authenticator for testing.

Santiago has denied using any illegal substance, saying he was using rosin on his pitching hand, which is allowed. However, it’s only allowed on a pitcher’s throwing hand, not their glove. Santiago said on Sunday: “Once they take it back and check it, it’s just sweat and rosin. If they’re going to do all this science stuff, it’s going to be sweat and rosin. We’ll be all right.

Wimbledon 2021: Serena Williams withdraws after injury, Roger Federer’s advances on Day 2

Serena Williams sustained a knee injury during her first round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus at Wimbledon 2021 on Tuesday. Williams, a twenty-three time Grand Slam champion, slipped on the wet grass court at the All England Club in the first set of her match against Sasnovich. She attempted to play through the injury, but could not reach returns and broke into tears when she tried to serve. She later fell for a second time, waved to the crowd and walked off the court. Williams is a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion.

Women’s No. 1 Ash Barty advanced, beating Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-7, 6-1 in 1 hour, 44 minutes.“She is a hell of a competitor and a hell of a fighter,” Barty told reporters, when asked about Suarez Navarro. “It was a privilege to share the court with her today.”  Barty will face Russian Anna Blinkova or Hungarian Timea Babos in the second round.

Men’s No. 8 Roger Federer advanced, as well as No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, No. 6 Alexander Zverev of Germany and No. 12 Denis Shapovalov of Canada. Federer said he was “lucky” to advance out of the first round against opponent Adrian Mannarino of France. Federer and Mannarino were tied at two sets apiece when Mannarino retired in the fifth set due to what appeared to be a knee injury. “I wish him all the best and I hope he recovers quickly so we see him back on the court,” Federer said in his on-court interview. “He could have won the match at the end obviously. He was the better player. I definitely got a bit lucky.”  Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, will face France’s Richard Gasquet in the second round.

Disney Channel alum Kyle Massey charged with felony for immoral communication with a minor

Disney Channel alum Kyle Massey, 29, is facing a felony charge for allegedly sending pornographic content to a 13-year-old girl in Dec. 2018 and Jan. 2019. The ‘That’s So Raven’ actor has been charged with one felony for allegedly sending explicit texts and videos to a 13-year-old girl, according to TMZ and Variety.  Massey was reportedly charged with one count of immoral communication with a minor on June 14 in King County, Washington. He failed to show up for his arraignment on June 28th.

The charge against Massey stems from a 2019 civil lawsuit, in which the underage victim sued the actor for $1.5 million for allegedly sending the pornographic content via Snapchat during the months of December 2018 and January 2019. The lawsuit also revealed that Massey and the 13-year-old met, alleging that she met Kyle over a decade ago at Universal City in California while with her mother. The young girl was interested in pursuing an acting career, according to the lawsuit, and Massey stayed in touch, reportedly offering to help the teen. In Nov. 2018, Kyle allegedly offered the teen a place to stay with him and his girlfriend while he planned to help her find an agent for her acting career.  Massey reportedly added the teen on Snapchat, and sent her “numerous sexually explicit text messages, images, and videos.”

Massey appeared on That’s So Raven from 2003 to 2007 and also starred in the spinoff Cory in the House from 2007 to 2008.

BTS’s “Butter” stays on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for record-breaking 5th consecutive week

Billboard announced that BTS’s “Butter” has once again taken the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for the fifth consecutive week. “Butter” also topped the list for top-selling songs of the week.

BTS set the record for the longest-running No. 1 hit by any Asian act when it topped the Hot 100 for the fourth consecutive time last week, and this week’s fifth consecutive No. 1 extends that record. Billboard’s Gary Trust writes, “Only one song by a group has topped the Hot 100 for more weeks from its debut than ‘Butter’: Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s ‘One Sweet Day,’ which spent its first 16 weeks on the chart at No. 1 in 1995-96.”

According to Billboard, “Butter” is just the 11th song out of the 54 songs that have debuted at No. 1 to spend its first five weeks at No. 1 in the history of the Hot 100.  “Butter” also took No. 1 on Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 2 on the Global 200 chart again this week. The song also topped the Digital Song Sales chart again and ranked No. 18 on the Streaming Songs chart and No. 22 on the Radio Songs chart.

Jamie Lynn Spears breaks her silence to show support for sister Britney Spears

Just days after Britney Spears made an emotional plea to a Los Angeles judge to terminate her conservatorship, her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears broke her silence, saying that she wants nothing but happiness for her sister and that she always has and “always will” support Britney.

Jamie Lynn said in the video message shared Monday to her Instagram stories, “I just want to take a second to address a few things. The only reason I hadn’t before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do. But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feeI I need to say.”

Jamie Lynn continued by saying she had made a “very conscious choice” to “only participate” in Britney’s life as a sister, adding “my sister knows I love and support her… I’m not my family. I’m my own person. And I’m speaking for myself.”  Jamie Lynn also said she’s “very proud” of Britney for speaking up and that she has always supported her and her happiness: “Maybe I didn’t support the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform but I can assure you that I support my sister long before there was a hashtag and I’ll support her long after.”

The statement from Jamie Lynn comes less than a week after Britney spoke publicly during a court hearing, addressing her conservatorship and how she hopes it is terminated.
